in the framework of the
29th EARSeL Symposium
Contents
You are cordially invited to attend the 2nd Workshop of the Special Interest Group on Education and Training of the European Association of Remote Sensing Laboratories. The workshop will be held at the Mediterranean Agronomic Institute of Chania in Chania on the island of Crete, Greece, on 16 June 2009, in parallel with the 29th Symposium of the European Association of Remote Sensing Laboratories.
Remote sensing of the earth covers many topics that are significant for all natural science disciplines in school and university curricula. Satellite imagery and data derived from satellite sensors are available for studies of local phenomena around schools, up to large-scale perspectives showing the diversity of nature in the various climate regions on earth. This allows thus to point out the dependence between local and global scales. Remote sensing data are used to observe and understand actual conditions on earth, but they also allow us to outline the methods for predicting future developments – e.g. of the climate system – with models.
All relevant institutions and or interested individuals are invited to participate. In particular the workshop is also addressed to the Global Environment and Security (GMES) programme of the European Commission and the European Space Agency. The success of GMES services and information products depends on specific training activities which include remote sensing for earth observation as a core element.
Topics:
The working language at the Workshop is English.

Registration and Abstract Submission
A registration for workshop attendance can be done anytime with the CMS and also on-site during the workshop. The due date for an abstract submission will be on 16 February 2009.
Presenting authors of workshop contributions, oral and poster, are requested to transfer the registration fee before 1 May 2009 to ensure that their contribution will be included in the final programme.
The workshop fee includes the abstract book, participation in practical demonstrations and excursions, participation in the icebreaker, lunches and coffee breaks, and publication in the Workshop Proceedings and in EARSeL eProceedings (reviewed publications only). The Workshop Dinner is not included in the fee.
